Week 9 of the WPIBL regular season had the West Mifflin Titan bowling Team hosting the Seton LaSalle Rebels.
Prior to the start of the match head coach John Wagner presented to Becky Harmening her achievement award from the USBC for tossing a 700 series on January 28th.
After receiving her award Becky took to the lanes and led the Lady Titans to a 7-0 victory over the Ladies from Seton LaSalle. The win brings the Lady Titans record to 7-2 in the Central Section.
The 1st game went to the Lady Titans 841-728 Becky Harmening continued her hot hand with a 219 game, she was assisted by Liz Morrison 172 and Kayla Swiech 199. High for Seton LaSalle was led by Madison Wrubleski 162. Game 2 went to the Lady Titans 901-659. Becky Harmening and Senior Captain Kayla Swiech led the way with a 202 games, other highs were Liz Morrison’s 167, Brittany Morrison 168 and Stephanie Mittenzwey 162. Topping Seton LaSalle was Madison Wrubleski 166. The Titans completed the sweep taking game 3, 891 – 628. Liz Morrison top the scoring with 203, Becky Harmening shot a 193, Kayla Swiech 181 and Steph Mittenzwey 199 for the Ladies. Seton LaSalle was led in game 3 once again by Madison Wrubleski 176. Becky Harmening finished the day with a 614 Series
The Titan boys varsity team rolled to an easy win over the Seton LaSalle Rebels taking the match 7-0. The boys varsity with the win moved to 7-2 in the Central section of the WPIBL. Game 1 went to the Titans 887-695 as Alex Houston 212 and Tommy Forster 204 lead the way. High for Seton LaSalle was Will Wright with a 164. Tommy Forster with a 227 paced the Titans in Game 2 as the Titans coasted to a 957-769 win. Other highs in game 2 were Bob Netherington 194, Alex Houston 194. Topping the Rebels were Ellis LaPiana 168 and Will Wright 176. Game 3 had the Titans fans cheering as Freshman Alex Houston tossed strike and strike for 7 consecutive frame as he approached the lane for the 8th frame Alex tossed the ball wide but it came back to head pin leading a solid 7pin as the crowded groaned in disblief as the pin stood. Alex took a deep breath and then covered the 7pin. He then finished the 9 and 10 frames with strikes to toss the season high game for the Titans with a 279 game to help the Titans break the 1000 pin barrier with a 1048-815 win. Game three was a team effort as Bob Netherton tossed a 213, Cody Brow a 192 sub Jon Moody with a 183 and Tommy Forster 181. Tyler Darden tossed a 194 for Seton LaSalle. Alex finished his day with a 685, while Tommy Forster had a 612 and Bobby Netherton 591.
The girls JV lost to Seton LaSalle by a score of 7-0.
The boys JV squad won over Seton LaSalle by a score of 7-0. Match scores were 876-556, 854-529, 948-612. As Alex Houston was tossing strikes for the varsity jv Bowler Jon Schmidt was matching him strike for strike for 6 consecutive frames. In the 7th frame Jon had a split which he missed but still finished with his personal high game of 233. Other high games for the JV squad were Jon Moody 232,, Brandon Gloeckl 194-191, Jon Schmidt 192, Justin Hoffman 201, T.J Nassida 206, Jeff Czarniecki 216 and Dom Colizza 191.
The Titans travel to North Versailles Bowl on Wednesday 2/16 to compete against Serra Catholic.
The WPIBL Playoffs will be held on Feb 23rd and 24th. The top 2 teams from each section advance to the playoffs.
The boys will be held at White Oak Bowl on Feb 23rd , while the girls will be held at Family Bowl Away in Butler on Feb 24th. Matches start both days at 3pm
The Western Regional Playoffs will be held at North Versailles bowl with singles competition on Sat Feb 26 and the team event on Sun Feb 27. The bowing starts each day at 9am
Qualifiers for the singles are the top 74 varsity averages in both the boys and girls divisions.
Top 12 from the singles and the top 6 teams will move on to the state finals in Reading Pa.
